At St. Sebastian’s School, Tangra, Kolkata, artificial intelligence is introduced to students not as a trend, but as a powerful tool that works alongside human intelligence, values and creativity. As more than 80% of senior school students across India now use AI tools for learning, understanding how to use these technologies wisely has become a key part of future‑ready education.
National Technology Day with AI & robotics
National Technology Day (11 May) celebrates India’s scientific courage and technological progress, and it has become an ideal moment for schools to connect classroom learning with real‑world innovation. Marking this occasion, students of Classes 11 and 12 (Science) from St. Sebastian’s School, Tangra, attended an AI & Robotics Workshop hosted by Amity University Kolkata, gaining first‑hand exposure to how intelligent systems and robots are designed, programmed and used in practice.
Guided by university faculty and experts, the students explored how AI supports automation, smart decision‑making and problem‑solving, while also discussing ethical use and the importance of human oversight. For many, it was a first look at a university‑level environment where robotics, coding and AI come together – showing clearly how their science subjects in school connect with emerging careers and industries.

AI with a human heart
Workshops like this are part of St. Sebastian’s broader effort to make students in Tangra, Kolkata comfortable with AI, robotics and new technologies, without losing sight of character, empathy and critical thinking. The school’s vision is to help young people become not just exam‑ready, but truly future‑ready – able to use tools like AI thoughtfully, creatively and responsibly in whatever path they choose.
"Our responsibility as a school is not only to teach facts, but to give every child the confidence to work with new technologies while staying grounded in strong values. If our students can combine human judgment with the possibilities of AI, they will be ready to serve society in meaningful ways."
says Dr. M. P. Rozario, Principal of St. Sebastian’s School, Tangra.
Under this steady, value‑driven leadership, St. Sebastian’s School continues to open doors to AI and robotics learning for students in Seal Lane and the wider Kolkata community – empowering young minds today, and quietly building the world they will inherit tomorrow.
